Origins of "A New Man"
Ho hum, it appears the inspiration behind the episode, "A New Man," written by Jane Espenson, could be, or possibly is, a book by John Barth, called "Giles Goat-Boy."
The book turned up in my house collecting dust... Interesting...
So, the story line of the book appears to be almost completely having nothing to do with "A New Man." Basically, it seems to be about a boy who was raised by goats. However, I haven't read the book myself so I could be mistaken.
Anyway, to the point. Study the pictures below... Or even just have a quick squiz, and you'll probably see the resemblance between them!
